Routine or PRN Drug Categories
All Drug Entry Records are designated either Routine (default) or PRN. Routine drugs are taken on a routine schedule. PRN drugs are only taken when needed.

Days Supply
Each drug alarm screen displays the remaining Days Supply to help you avoid running out of medication. When the term Days Supply is Bold, the remaining supply is 5 days or less.

NOTE: OnTimeRx® can handle the most complicated drug regimens by combining Drug Categories with appropriate Frequency options in various ways. The patient may not intuitively understand how to properly set up these options, but the healthcare professional will understand and appreciate the scheduling flexibility.

Hourly Frequency
When Routine drug doses must be precisely or evenly spaced, Hourly Frequencies can be used to schedule the alarms. For drugs taken during waking hours - select a 12-hour interval. For drugs taken around the clock - select a 24-hour interval. Hourly frequencies are also used for certain PRN drugs that may be taken every so many hours - as needed. When a combination Hourly/PRN dose is taken (a PRN drug with an Hourly frequency selected), a message box will display to ask if an alarm should be set for the next allowed dose.

As Needed Frequency
The As Needed dosing frequency is used for Drugs that are taken randomly and only when needed for symptoms or conditions like these:

  • Infrequent headaches or migraines
  • Occasional heartburn or indigestion
  • Shortness of breath
  • Allergic reaction
  • Nausea

The patient decides when medication is needed in these cases; therefore, no alarms can be pre-set for these random situations. However, it is helpful to log all As Needed drug doses to document when a symptom or condition occurred and what was done to treat it.

Take Now
The Take Now button is used to record taking a dose of a PRN drug on the Log. Additional Log Details can be added to record why a PRN dose was taken. The Reason: dropdown lists Reasons for missing doses, and it can also be edited and used to document Results, such as: taking a PRN dose for Pain management. Any item on any dropdown list can be renamed to fit the needs of the patient. The Take Now button is also used to log an early dose of a Routine drug.

PillTime and ToDoToday
BOLD items on either the PillTime or ToDoToday list indicate the NEXT scheduled alarm for any drug or event. All To Do Events are normally logged (default). However, the user can uncheck the Log events box if no record of a specific ToDo event is needed.

MyMeds
BOLD items on MyMeds list are Routine Drugs with recurring scheduled alarms set. Regular font items are either PRN drugs or a Quick List of the drug names only. In either case, there are no scheduled alarms set.

NOTE: OnTimeRx® works on any Palm PDA using Palm OS® version 3.1 or higher. It is also Palm OS® v.5 compatible and now supports "copy/cut/paste" text functions.

This capability allows data to be entered and edited on a PC and then hot synced into the PDA Memo feature. The text in a Memo can then be copied, cut, and pasted into several OTRx fields. This is especially helpful for "More" Directions or additional "Notes" on a Drug Entry or for adding extensive 911 information in OnTimeRx®

New features will further enhance the usefulness of OnTimeRx® as a compliance tool and expand the capabilities of utilizing this tool in clinical research settings.
